Master Chan was born in Laos and sponsored to the United States in 1983 by a local church. He was able to experience freedom from Communism. He took the opportunity to go to school, learn English and get a job. Master Chan has a love for soccer and martial arts, both of which he poured his spare time into. He’s been training in martial arts since he was a young boy in Laos and Thailand.
As a teenager in the United States, Master Chan had exposure to the nature of our society. Many things became clear to him. To enjoy life and stay out of trouble you need to have focus on good habits, and have excellent role models. Consistent role models need to have integrity, self-control and respect for themselves and others.
Master Chan knew there was a way to motivate children to gain self-discipline and respect for themselves. He wanted to see children gain focus and self-control over the struggles in their lives. He understood the need for a friendly and positive environment environment. In his training as a young man, Master Chan thought about how to bring this to his community.
Master Chan sought out martial arts in Michigan and Texas. While learning from each experience, he earned his 5th Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do. His martial arts background is in Muay Thai, Aikido, and Hapkido.
In 1988, Master Chan met his future wife Rachael. They married in 1990 and are parents of three children. Together they opened Chan’s Martial Arts. Their desire to teach others self-control, confidence, patience, respect, and self-discipline.
