CONFIDENCE
“A feeling of self-assurance arising from one’s appreciation of one’s own abilities or qualities.”
Seeking confidence for yourself or your child might be exactly what brought you to martial arts. Maybe you wanted to help empower your child with physical skills and self-discipline in life. Maybe the simple act of being forced into new activities and new community will boost your child’s self-confidence. Or, maybe your child was brimming with confidence and needed a place to channel that energy physically and mentally.
The physical challenges, mental memorizations, variety and routine of weekly taekwondo classes all have a way of stimulating the development of confidence in both young and old. Students learn unique combinations of small and large movements choreographed into a form. They are tasked with introducing themselves to, cooperating with, and sparring with classmates of all ages and various skill levels. Fitness challenges not only train the body, but push students beyond their perceived limits…and into increased confidence!
Watch our instructors, all of whom have grown up in our martial arts programs, and you’ll see how they lead with self-confidence while supporting and encouraging all students to be their best. It is an environment of mutual respect, conversations and activities that not only emboldens students to strive for success, but also picks them up and boosts them on after failures.
On the mat this month, listen to the examples our instructors give about what confidence means. Watch as they nourish taekwondo students with a healthy balance of testing their abilities while sparking self-confidence to make good choices, face challenges, and lead by example.
